Moments of weakness. We all have them. We have our goals, we are humming along, and then all of the sudden we are ambushed by something that undermines our resolve and we are tempted to give in. Sometimes we do give in. Maybe a lot of times we give in. Or maybe we live in a constant state of having difficulty overcoming our weakness and exist in the giving-in state.
Ever see those people who are super fit and fabulous and you just think to yourself they must not ever be tempted by a french fry? That they are just genetically blessed? No, they are NOT more genetically blessed, or have it any easier, or are less tempted than you and me. Those are folks who are just super disciplined at acknowledging their weaknesses, having a plan for when they feel weak, and then carry it out instead of throwing in the towel when it gets tough.
The road to health usually gets frustrating when you haven't been at it long enough to SEE results, and you are uncomfortable with the lifestyle changes that are new to you. In times such as this, go back to your goals you wrote down. Remind yourself WHY. And then comes the step in re-directing your mind. Instead of wallowing in how much you want the whole bag of chips that you've been staring at on the counter for the past hour, get out of the kitchen and go for a walk. Invite a friend to go along with you to sweat it out. Pick up a good book and immerse yourself in a different world. Get some of your to-do list checked off. Get the food out-of-sight-out-of-mind.
What are some of your ideas to re-direct your mind in moments of temptation?
