I love breakfast! My parents started me off always eating breakfast before school, and this has been a habit I've carried with me into adulthood. Lately with the warm summer weather, I'll whip up a protein shake in the blender and it not only fills me up and keeps me full, but has balanced my blood sugar so well that I find my mood is pretty even-keel throughout the morning. Eating a delicious donut or bagel for breakfast, however, leaves me cranky and lethargic all day.
Breakfast boosts your metabolism and sets your energy levels for the day. You'll probably find you have more brain power with increased ability to concentrate and perform mental tasks. You'll also be more likely to make good food decisions throughout your day if you start off on a good foot at breakfast. Studies have found that breakfast eaters tend to weigh less than those who skip out on it. You'd think that saving those calories from breakfast would add up to weight loss, but it tends to have the opposite effect!
Adding lean protein to your breakfast can help keep you full until lunchtime and keep you from snacking. Do you regularly add veggies into your breakfast? Give it a try; you'll be amazed at how good you feel! Here are some breakfast ideas to try if you're new to the breakfast game or need to spice your routine up a bit:
*smoothie with added fruit/veggies
*greek yogurt drizzled with PB, nuts/seeds, and fruit
*oatmeal or overnight oats topped with your favorite toppings (try adding greek yogurt for an extra protein boost!)
*hardboiled eggs with fruit/veggies
*egg whites with turkey bacon and veggies and a side of Ezekiel bread toast, buttered
