Here is an exercise disguised as a tricep exercise but really it's an incredible challenge for the core and shoulders while holding the plank position. Here are some tips to keep in mind while trying it:
1.) Keep your hips level; they will want to come up but don't let them!
2.) Keep your stabilizing hand right under your shoulder; too far out in front or back behind will make it much harder.
3.) Position your feet wider than your hips; it will help keep you stable.
4.) Look down at your hand, not too far out in front of you or back at your feet.
5.) Pull your belly button in towards your spine to help you keep a solid core contraction.
6.) If you have a mirror you can use to give you a visual on what your body is doing during this exercise it would be very helpful!
Not quite ready for this advanced exercise? Try coming down to a knee plank and keep a straight line from shoulders to knees while doing the tricep movement. This will help alleviate some of the stress on your core. Still too hard? Try doing just the arm movement while down on all fours (hands and knees). Remember to always focus on keeping your core engaged!
On a side note, this was my first solo attempt at making a video. After showing it to my husband, he decided it was a great video with some of the worst music selection. But he encouraged me to keep it as is so I could look back in a few years on this gem and hopefully see growth in my music selection.
